Caridad joins the BNFSC as an Instructional Lead, having served for 8 years as an Assistant Principal.  Although an educator since 1995, her journey in NYC public schools began as a student at University Heights H.S, a Coalition of Essential Schools member guided by Ted Sizer's principles. Here, she became acutely aware of the inequities in American education.  After earning her B.A she began teaching at Fannie Lou Hamer H.S, a consortium school in the Bronx.  The school shaped her beliefs about progressive pedagogy and alternative assessments, and her passion for serving at risk students.  Caridad is a founder of the Urban Assembly School for Wildlife Conservation, a school created to address the gap of minority students in the fields of Science and Math.
