Barry comes to the BNFSC after serving schools throughout the region.   He is in his 23rd year in education and has been a teacher, instructional lead, and administrator in various public and private schools. His expertise is in early literacy and literacy interventions, and students with learning, emotional, and intellectual disabilities and visual impairments. Prior to returning to the DOE in 2012, Barry was Principal for 7 years at a school for children with physical and cognitive disabilities. In addition to his full-time job, Barry has spent the last 11 years teaching NYC Teaching Fellows at Pace University and also spent 11 years as an independent Special Education Teacher Support Services (SETSS) provider for the DOE. Barry holds degrees in Special Education, Teaching Reading, School and District Administration, and is working to complete a Doctorate in Literacy.
